How to create questionnaires for multiple onboarding channels

At TradingFront, we provide you with the capability to onboard clients via different questionnaires that are fully customizable. As such, you can have multiple white-label onboarding channels! In this article, we will teach you how to:

  1. Create a score-based questionnaire
  2. Create a goal-based questionnaire
  3. Use a questionnaire

For example, you can create different gateways targeting different prospects on your website. Each of these gateways can be linked to an onboarding link generated from your questionnaires in your advisor portal.

In order to onboard via questionnaires, you must first create and customize them. If you want to onboard a client via a public link requiring no questionnaire, please see Use the no questionnaire public onboarding link.

Go to "Questionnaire." You should see two sample questionnaires we created for you. You can either edit them or add new ones.

You can click the “Copy Link” button in a questionnaire box. This link is the dedicated URL for that questionnaire. You can use these links on your website, or any other public places where you see fit, to set up different onboarding processes with different questionnaires. When prospects or clients click on that link, they can go through that questionnaire and onboard themselves with a recommended portfolio.

Creating a score-based questionnaire

Before you create a score-based questionnaire, you first have to create model portfolios. Please refer to How to create a model portfolio.

1) Click "Add New" and choose "Scored Based Questionnaire" and Confirm.

2) In the Custom Questions setup page, you will have to input the Title and Description. Then design your custom questions by adding either "Multiple Choice" or "Dropdown."

2.1) The difference between a "Multiple Choice" and a "Dropdown" is that the Multiple Choice will show all the available answers upfront while a Dropdown does not.

3) Each of the answers you define has to have a score. These scored will be summed up by the system automatically. The lowest and highest points become the score range.

In the above example, the score range is from 1-5. So on the next page, you can break the score range into intervals and map them with different model portfolios.

4) Map the score ranges with different portfolios. Click "Add New" then in the pop-out page, choose the score range for your first model portfolio. For example, 1-3. Once you have the score range input, you can choose a portfolio for this score range, for example, we picked 80/20 portfolio. Then Confirm.

5) Once it is confirmed, you will see that range has been added to the list. You can continue adding new ranges/portfolios by clicking "Add New."

Please keep in mind that there cannot be any overlaps between different score intervals. Also, the lowest end and the highest end has to be consistent with the total score range.

For example, if your total score is 1-5 and you break it into two intervals. It has to be 1~X, Y~5, Y = X +1.

6) Preview or Finish. Once you have the intervals mapped, you can either Preview or Finish.

Creating a goal-based questionnaire

First of all, you have to have goals ready. We've created two sample investment goals for you, under "Portfolio/Goal List." Please see this article on creating an investment goal: How to create an investment goal.

The steps are very much similar to creating a score-based questionnaire.

1) Click "Add New" and choose "Goal Based Questionnaire" and Confirm.

2) In the Custom Questions setup page, you will have to input the Title and Description. Choose the goals that you want to be associated with the questionnaire. Then you can design your custom questions by adding either "Multiple Choice" or "Dropdown." The custom rules in a goal-based questionnaire do not require scores. It is an "if x then y" system.

2.1) The goals you chose in the above section will determine how many goals your prospects will see at the beginning when they go through that questionnaire.

3) Once you have the rules set up, click "Next." On this page, you can map different answers with different portfolios.

4) Preview or Finish. Once you have the intervals mapped, you can either Preview or Finish.

Use questionnaires

Once you have all the questionnaires set up, you can go back to the Questionnaire tab, click the “Copy Link” button in a questionnaire box. You can paste the link into your browser to see how it works.

This link is the dedicated URL for that questionnaire. You can use these links on your website, or any other public places where you see fit, to set up different onboarding processes with different questionnaires. Any prospects who click on that link can go through that questionnaire and onboard themselves with a recommended portfolio.
